Say goodbye to the food pyramid! On Thursday, the Obama administration will introduce a new nutritional guideline in an attempt to better educate the public about healthy eating habits.

The USDA first introduced the food pyramid in 1992 and millions of nutritionists, teachers, parents, and more have used the symbol to teach healthy eating habits. However, critics have long decried the pyramid as being confusing at best and utterly useless at worst due to its misleading layout and its lack of distinction between healthy foods like whole grains and fish and less healthy foods like white bread and pork. This criticism, along with the nation’s growing obesity problem, prompted the Obama administration to ditch the pyramid for a new nutritional guideline symbol: a circular plate.

The recent outbreak of the equine herpes virus in Farmington, Utah has led organizers of the Davis County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse Junior Queen Contest to cancel all horse related events.

There are many great things that come with Memorial Day. It is a day to honor those who have died serving our country. It has been deemed the first day of summer. For most of us, Memorial Day gives us a three-day weekend full of barbeques and parties. And last, but not least, there are the Memorial Day sales.

Memorial Day is a few short days away. It is a time to remember fallen military and loved ones. For some it is just another excuse to host a family cookout or have friends over for a backyard party.

If you are hosting a backyard soiree and need something other than the usual beer or in addition to beer you could whip up a batch of Sangria. It’s really easy to make. I like to use a beverage container with a spout so it’s easy self-service.

Guinness Foreign Stout was first made over 200 years ago to be exported globally.  It is made with generous hops and roasted barely, giving it a bittersweet balance of full flavor with a natural bite. The addition of the extra hops ensured the Stout would arrive in perfect condition.

This weekend marks the beginning of summer for most people which means a trip to drug store to purchase sunscreen. If you’re like most people you might often think that the more expensive a sunscreen is the more effective it is. Begrudgingly you might even splurge on it too.
