Mundane old marathons are being made much more exciting with events like Warrior Dash and Zombie Race. Another new extreme adventure will challenge athletes this October as Race the Reaper is described as "Oregon's craziest obstacle race".

Ex-military civil and mechanical engineers were recruited to help create the grueling 5.6 mile course covered with 18 obstacles from hell. Competitors can register for either the Saturday, October 1st run or the Sunday, October 2nd run at the Flying-M-Ranch in Yamhill, Oregon.

Want to hear something frightening? According to a new study, half of U.S. adults will be obese by 2030. In other words, 164 million Americans will be obese, not overweight, a little over 15 years from now. The United Kingdom will also see a sharp rise in obesity.

It’s easy to see that many companies are profiting from the 9/11 tragedy. A slew of memorial t-shirts, buttons, ribbons, and bumper stickers have cropped up over the last few years, bringing retailers lots of cash. However, while most memorial items go unnoticed, a 9/11 wine produced by a New York winery has drawn the ire of politicians, celebrities, and emergency workers.

 If you’ve been wondering why the likes of Kim Kardashian, the cast of Jersey Shore, or any of the Real Housewives aren’t on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, here’s your answer:  a spokesperson has announced that the Hollywood Walk of Fame doesn’t allow reality show stars to get stars.

On the Walk of Fame’s Facebook page, a post from a spokesperson reads, “Someone asked if we give reality show characters stars? Hell to the No!”

A board of volunteers in Clearwater, Florida presented the Church of Scientology with $413,500 of unpaid fines tied to the long-delayed construction of the organization’s “Super Power” building. Since 2006, the city has fined the church $250 per day for letting its 7-story building crumble into disrepair during 12 years of construction.

The building was finally finished in June, at which point the fines were assessed and issued to the church. The church, however, asked the city to reduce the fine by 90%, to reflect its “good faith” effort to bring the building up to code. That request went to the city’s resident-led Code Enforcement board, where members unanimously voted to keep the fines as is, saying that the church had long-ignored the rules in the city.

In an attempt to hook kids on science and math, NASA and Tor/Forge Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC, have teamed up to develop “NASA Inspired Works of Fiction,” a series of sci-fi novels based on past, present, and future NASA projects.
