There are a ton of foods we eat on a daily basis without a second thought, but maybe we should. Cracked.com revealed six crazy side effects to foods exactly like this. Carrots, coffee, sugar-free gum and a few others could be causing some unsettling problems for you. Here are the details!

1. Red Meats Make Men Smell

Gentlemen, I don’t know if you know this, but eating red meat can actually make you LESS appealing to women. Back in 2006, a study was conducted involving 17 men. The men were divided into two groups and they were put on diets for two weeks. One group ate red meat and the other skipped out. Turns out women were more attracted to the sweat of men who skipped the red meat.

2. Sugar-Free Gum Can Cause Some Serious Stomach Issues

Turns out sugar-free gum has an ingredient in it called sorbitol. Sorbitol is a chemical that intestines can’t absorb very well, basically making it a laxative. If you’re the occasional gum chewer you probably don’t need to be too concerned. Sorbitol is fine in small amounts. But, for the gum-chewing fiends, you may want to consider other options or make sure there’s a bathroom nearby.

3. Certain Fruits and Veggies Give You an Irresistible Tan

Apparently eating so many carrots that you turn orange could actually be a good thing. Carotenoids are color-pigments found in certain fruits and veggie like carrots, plums and cucumbers. Studies were done and showed that the healthy orange-yellow tint was found more attractive. Main reason being, it alluded to a healthy lifestyle.

4. Grapefruit Can Make Meds Hard To Break Down

Aside from being a healthy breakfast, grapefruit does have a negative side effect. This citrus fruit blocks certain enzymes in the small intestine that break down medications. Just one glass of grapefruit juice could have your system blocked for a full day. Wikipedia even put up a list of medications that interact with the fruit because there are so many!

5. Too Much Coffee Can Make You Hear Things

Coffee is an essential to just about anyone living a fast-paced life, but an Australian study showed that too much can seriously mess with your brain. It can actually cause a symptom of schizophrenia. White noise was played for a group of individuals and they were told to press a button every time they heard music come through the white noise. There wasn’t actually any music played, but people who drank five or more cups of coffee thought they heard it!

6. Soy Can Lower Sperm Count

Soy has a pro-estrogenic effect on the body, causing estrogen to increase and sperm count to drop. In a Harvard Study, scientists looked at 99 men having their sperm analyzed by a fertility clinic. Men who consumed the most soy had about 41 million sperm per milliliter less than those who didn’t eat soy or soy products at all!
