There have definitely been some creepy apps that have hit the market in the past, but a new one called “Girls Around Me” might be the most unsettling! Let’s just say it’s a wonderful mix of really extreme people watching and straight-up stalking. This sounds like a good, healthy and safe concept to put on all cell phones, right?

This mobile application uses a combination Foursquare GPS tracking and Facebook. If you think this is already sounding sketchy, you haven’t heard the half of it! The app literally allows men to pinpoint women’s locations, see their full names, pictures and information on the social networking sites and send them personal messages on Facebook. While the information available is limited to whatever your privacy settings are programmed to show, it’s still a lot more than I’d be comfortable with a stranger knowing about me!

What I’m curious to find out is how this application could be used in a normal way. It seems like the purpose is literally to stalk and pry into the lives of random women on the street, which is never a very comforting scenario. Do you think an app like this could lead to more crime or privacy problems? Share your opinions in the comment section below!
