After a fear-filled morning, the lockdown at East Carolina University has been lifted after a man with a gun allegedly trekked onto the college campus.

An alert was sent out a few hours ago from ECU stating: "ECU police, assisted by Greenville Police Department and Pitt County Sheriff's officers, are responding to an unconfirmed report of a man last observed on 5th Street who may be carrying a rifle. The campus is locked down, with all buildings locked, and students, faculty and staff members have been advised to stay away from windows and doors in the campus facilities. There have been no reports of injuries or threats on the campus."

Students on the campus, including X Games silver medalist Diogo Canina, were hunkered down while the campus was searched with nothing but rumors to go on.  These rumors had students braced for a much scarier situation than reality. At one point, Canina tweeted: "Armed guy at ECU with a [sic] Ak-47 Riffle. I can't guarantee, but apparently he is holding 30 hostages."

Fortunately for everyone involved, the rumors were false. There weren’t any hostages or injuries reported. The university released a final emergency alert at 12:52 p.m. stating: "ECU Officials have determined that the situation has ended and that there is no threat to campus. Officials have declared the situation ALL CLEAR."
