There are many great things that come with Memorial Day. It is a day to honor those who have died serving our country. It has been deemed the first day of summer. For most of us, Memorial Day gives us a three-day weekend full of barbeques and parties. And last, but not least, there are the Memorial Day sales.

Memorial Day is one of the best times to update you and your family’s closet. The warmer weather inspires people to purchase summer clothing, so retailers will mark down their inventory accordingly. Gap, Sears, Neiman Marcus, Old Navy, Kohls, Ann Taylor, Macys, American Eagle, The Children’s Place, and more are having wonderful sales over the weekend. The best way to save? Shop online. Not only will you get the in-store savings, but there are discount codes available online to save you even more money.

Many hardware and appliance stores are also featuring sales on their tool sets and appliances. These stores include Sears, Home Depot, and Lowe’s. Home Depot is also featuring a discount off paint for those projects you need to do around the house.

Electronics will also be on sale over the weekend, for those looking to “geek out.” Best buy is featuring sales on Apple products and bundle packages (such as a free Xbox console with the purchase of an LG HDTV).  Wal-Mart is also featuring sales on electronics. Even so, experts say to wait until the winter holidays if you are looking for good sales on electronics.

If you are looking to replace your patio and outdoor furniture, or even your grill, experts say to wait until the end of the summer if you can. Prices are higher now, even on sale, than they will be at the end of the grilling season.

My advice for your Memorial Day shopping: If you are looking for clothing, head to the mall and look for what you like. Try it all on to make sure you know which size to get and that you really do like it. Then head back home to your computer and buy it all online. By the time you are ready to check out, make sure you have searched the internet for any additional discounts. This way you will make sure to get the right sizes and colors at the best price.

Above all, have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend! Don’t forget to take some time out to remember those that have given their lives protecting our freedom!
