We have all made stupid crank calls. They are a rite of passage aren’t they? Usually though it’s a call to a random number or to a classmate you aren’t fond of. How many of us would dare call 911 with a phony emergency?
Alex Baker, 20, of Clarksville Tennessee, thought it was a great idea. He made three calls to 911 the other night and each time he had a whopper of a lie to tell them.
The first call was placed at 7:13pm, anonymously, and reported witnessing a murder. At 7:26 he called again to claim he had been stabbed and abandoned in a wooded area. The last call placed at 7:49 reported he was dying in the woods and Alex Baker had murdered his girlfriend.
The calls were traced to Baker's cell phone. He told the officers that he had lost his cell earlier in the week. So the police pulled out the K9 units and searched the woods attempting to find supporting evidence of the calls. Nothing was found.
Baker later admitted to making the phony calls because he was bored and anxious as he went through nicotine withdrawal. Bored and anxious? Perhaps it may have been smarter to just have the cigarette.
He has been charged with three counts of filing a false report and is currently being held in jail until $15,000 bond can be paid. Maybe Joe Camel can bail him out.
